Unit 3: Present Continuous and Present Simple 1 (I am doing and I do)

A. Порівняння Present Continuous (I am doing) і Present Simple (I do)

1. Present Continuous (I am doing)

  • The water is boiling. Be careful.
  • Listen to those people. What language are they speaking?
  • Let’s go out. It isn’t raining now.

2. Present Simple (I do)

  • Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius.
  • Excuse me, do you speak English?
  • It doesn’t rain very much in summer.

Present Continuous Present Simple
The water is boiling. Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius.
I’m meeting a friend later. The train leaves at 6 PM.

Present Continuous

  • I’m living with some friends until I find a place of my own.
  • A: You’re working hard today.
B: Yes, I have a lot to do.

Тимчасові ситуації часто супроводжуються словами today, this week, this month.

C. “I always do” і “I’m always doing”

1. “I always do” = я роблю це регулярно

  • I always go to work by car.
  • I always get hungry in the afternoon.

2. “I’m always doing” =

  • I’ve lost my keys again. I’m always losing them.
  • Paul is never satisfied. He’s always complaining.
  • You’re always looking at your phone. Don’t you have anything else to do?

Present Simple

  • My parents live in London. They have lived there all their lives.
  • Joe isn’t lazy. He works hard most of the time.

Що відбувається зараз What are you doing?
