Unit 40: If I Had Known… I Wish I Had Known…

A. Використання “If I Had Known”

  • If I’d known you were in hospital, I would have gone to visit you.
  • If you’d been looking where you were going, you wouldn’t have walked into the wall.

  • У головній частині речення використовуємо “would have”, “could have” або “might have”.

  • If I had seen you, I would have said hello.
  • The view was wonderful. I would have taken pictures if I’d had a camera.

B. Використання “Wish I Had Known”

“Wish + had + past participle”

  • I wish I’d known that Gary was ill.
  • I feel sick. I wish I hadn’t eaten so much.

  • I wish I hadn’t missed the bus.
  • I wish it hadn’t rained yesterday.

1. Не використовуйте “would have” в “if-частині”

У “if-частині” речення ми використовуємо “had + past participle”, а не “would have”.

If I would have seen you, I would have said hello.
If I had seen you, I would have said hello.

2. Розрізнення “would”, “could” і “might”

We would have gone out.
We could have gone out.
We might have gone out.

If I’d known, I would have visited you.
I wish I’d studied harder.
We could have gone out if it hadn’t rained.
