Unit 55: Verb (+ object) + to (I want you to …)
A. Дієслова, після яких використовується “to-infinitive”
Деякі дієслова можуть стояти самостійно перед to-infinitive або мати додатковий об’єкт між ними.
1. Дієслова без об’єкта
✅ Приклади:
- We expected to be late. (Ми очікували, що запізнимося.)
- Would you like to go now? (Ти б хотів піти зараз?)
- He doesn’t want to know. (Він не хоче знати.)
📌 Після “want” ми не використовуємо “that”:
- ❌ He doesn’t want that anybody knows.
- ✅ He doesn’t want anybody to know. (Він не хоче, щоб хтось знав.)
2. Дієслова, які можуть мати об’єкт перед “to-infinitive”

📌 “Help” можна використовувати як із “to”, так і без нього:
- Can you help me (to) move this table?
- Can you help me move this table?
(Можеш допомогти мені пересунути цей стіл?)
B. Дієслова + object + to-infinitive
Деякі дієслова вимагають об’єкта перед to-infinitive.

| persuade (переконати) | She persuaded me to apply for the job. |
| encourage (заохотити) | My parents encouraged me to study harder. |
| get (змусити, умовити) | I got somebody to help me move the piano. |
| force (змусити) | The rain forced us to stay at home. |
| teach (вчити) | Who taught you to drive? |
| allow (дозволяти) | They don’t allow people to park in front of the building. |
| enable (давати можливість) | This software enables users to create documents easily. |
✅ Приклади:
- I didn’t move the piano by myself. I got somebody to help me.
(Я не пересував піаніно сам. Я попросив когось допомогти мені.) - They don’t allow people to smoke in the building.
(Вони не дозволяють людям курити в будівлі.)
📌 Якщо дієслово вживається в пасиві (be + V3), конструкція змінюється:
- I was warned not to touch the switch.
(Мене попередили, щоб я не торкався вимикача.) - Are we allowed to park here?
(Нам дозволено тут паркуватися?)
C. “Make” та “Let”
З дієсловами make (змушувати) і let (дозволяти) ми не використовуємо “to” перед інфінітивом.

✅ Приклади:
- Hot weather makes me feel tired.
(Спекотна погода змушує мене почуватися втомленим.) - Let me carry your bag for you.
(Дозволь мені понести твою сумку.)
📌 У пасиві “make” змінюється, і “to” додається:
- We were made to wait for two hours.
(Нас змусили чекати дві години.)
D. “Suggest” не вживається з “to”
✅ Правильно:
- Jane suggested that I ask you for advice.
(Джейн запропонувала, щоб я запитав у тебе поради.) - Jane suggested going to the cinema.
(Джейн запропонувала піти в кіно.)
❌ Неправильно:
- Jane suggested me to ask you for advice.
