Unit 66: “To …” (afraid to do) і “Preposition + -ing” (afraid of -ing)

A. “Afraid to do” vs. “Afraid of doing”

People are afraid to walk here at night.
James was afraid to tell his parents what had happened.

2. “Afraid of doing” =

We were afraid of falling on the icy path.
I’m afraid of being bitten by a dog.

I’m afraid to fall.
I’m afraid of falling.

I’m afraid of to tell them.
I’m afraid to tell them.

B. “Interested in doing” vs. “Interested to do”

1. “Interested in doing” =

I’m interested in joining the club.
She is interested in learning French.

I’m interested in to join the club.
I’m interested in joining the club.

2. “Interested to do” = цікаво дізнатися/почути/побачити щось

I was interested to hear that Tanya left her job.
I would be interested to know what he thinks.

  • I’m interested in learning Spanish.
  • I was interested to hear that you speak Spanish.

C. “Sorry for doing” vs. “Sorry to do”

1. “Sorry for doing” =

I’m sorry for shouting at you yesterday.
He is sorry for not coming to the meeting.

I’m sorry I shouted at you yesterday.

I’m sorry to shout at you yesterday.

2. “Sorry to do” = шкодувати про щось у момент розмови

I’m sorry to hear that Nicky lost her job.
I’ll be sorry to leave this place.

I’m sorry to bother you, but I need to ask you a question.

  • I’m sorry for being late.
  • I’m sorry to be late.

D. Дієслова з “to do” vs. Дієслова з “preposition + -ing”

1. Дієслова з “to do”
