Unit 74: The (Частина 2) – School / The School тощо

A. Відмінність між “school” та “the school”

Ellie is ten years old. Every day she goes to school. Today Ellie’s mother has gone to the school to speak to the teacher.
She’s at school now. She’s at the school now.
School starts at 9 and finishes at 3. She is visiting the school building.

З артиклем (the school):

go to school (як учень) go to the school (як відвідувач)
go to prison (як в’язень) go to the prison (відвідати в’язня)
go to hospital (як пацієнт) go to the hospital (відвідати когось у лікарні)
go to university (як студент) go to the university (як відвідувач, для зустрічі)
go to church (на службу) go to the church (відвідати будівлю церкви, наприклад для ремонту)

Ken’s brother is in prison for robbery.
Sarah’s father goes to church every Sunday.

I’m going to the school every day. → ✅ I’m going to school every day.
He’s in the hospital after the accident. → ✅ He’s in hospital after the accident.

C. Винятки: bed, work, home

go to bed (лягати спати) sit on the bed (сидіти на ліжку, як на меблях)
go to work (йти на роботу) the work was difficult (конкретна робота)
