Unit 76: The (Частина 4) – The Giraffe / The Telephone / The Old і т.д.

The giraffe is the tallest of all animals.
The bicycle is an excellent means of transport.
When was the camera invented?
The dollar is the currency of the United States.

Порівняння “a” та “the”:

a/an (один із багатьох) the (у загальному значенні про тип)
I’d like to have a piano. I can’t play the piano.
We saw a giraffe at the zoo. The giraffe is my favourite animal.

З “the” Переклад
Can you play the guitar?
The piano is my favourite instrument.

Без “the” Переклад
What do you know about the origins of man?

the old літні люди
the young молоді люди
the rich багаті люди
the poor бідні люди
the homeless бездомні
the unemployed безробітні
the sick хворі
the injured поранені

З артиклем “the” Переклад
Do you think the rich should pay higher taxes?
We need to do more to help the homeless.

  • the old (не the olds)
  • the poor (не the poors)

  • a rich man (один багатий чоловік)
  • a homeless person (одна бездомна людина)

the French французи
the Dutch голландці
the British британці
the English англійці

З артиклем “the” Переклад
The French are famous for their food.

  • I met a French woman.
  • He is an English man.

the Chinese китайці
the Japanese японці
the Portuguese португальці
the Swiss швейцарці

  • The Chinese have a rich cultural history.

  • I met a Chinese man.

Italian an Italian Italians
Mexican a Mexican Mexicans

  • Italians are very friendly.

  • Italian people are very friendly.
